Binfield plan to convert chicken shed into new homes | Bracknell News

A plan which proposes converting a chicken shed into two new homes in Binfield has been submitted to the council.

The application outlines a scheme to redevelop a portion of ‘Poultry Shed 4’ at Stokes Farm into one five-bedroom and a single one-bedroom property, with parking, a cycle store and outdoor space.

The 0.53-acre site is located to the south-east of Binfield Road and, as it falls outside of the defined urban area, is within the ‘open countryside’ for planning purposes.

Stokes Farm itself centres around free range egg production on 70 acres of pasture and a farm shop, as well as surrounding land comprising of open paddocks with associated stabling and eight acres of woodland.

This chicken shed, which is located on the south-eastern boundary of the farm and still in use, was originally constructed in 1995 to serve the housing of around 22,000 free range poultry.

Its steel framed and concrete structure has been deemed to be able to support a full residential conversion without the need for extensive building works - other than for windows, doors and the installation of water, electricity and gas.

All existing trees would be retained, as well as some additional planting to screen the development from public vantage points.
